Finally I got my F10 today, a 520i, four months after I placed my booking for a 520d. I'll save my review of the car from an owner's point of view later, but since the title of this thread is "F10 520i vs 520d", I'll state here the reasons why I switched from "d" to "i" as they might be helpful to those who are looking for some pointers whether it's a "d" or "i" for them. 1) The car will be mainly driven by my wife and it's gonna be her daily ride. I'll drive maybe only 10% of the time. The fueling will be mainly done by my wife. So I think a petrol car is still more convenient for a lady compared to a diesel variant when it comes to fueling at a typical gas station in Malaysia. Besides, I am also trying to avoid the following scenarios: Of course the above is irrelevant if you are a guy. I've been driving a diesel car for the past 9 years and it never bothers me when it comes to feuling. It's just that some of the stations have only diesel pumps for lorry (the pump size is bigger) and they are usually very dirty. Imagine the spilled diesel on the floor that don't evaporize. I guess the only diesel-friendly gas stations are the ones which were named "Projet" as they have diesel pump at each and every pump kiosk. I think "Projet" has become "Shell" now. 2) I'll be dirven more than I'll drive so the extra torque on the "d" probably means less significant to me and for my wife, 270Nm on the "i" is more than adequate. 3) We'll put an average of 10,000 km on the car only on a yearly basis so the higher fuel consumption on the "i" is probably ok for us. This is my first BMW so I hope all the BMW gurus here will help me with the questions I might have regarding the F10. My first question, is the initial fuel consumption shown in the on-board computer of 35l/100km normal? The fuel tank is quarter full.
