Expansion Tank Protector

Hey any of you guys come across a protective material on the expansion tank?I've changed mine 3 times where the first one was from stuttgart which only lasted for 6 months. The 2nd one was from bavarian auto and that one lasted for a year and a half.But thats not the problem, the problem is having it cracked at weird timing and places where there's no stations to stop for a refill.Just got mine replaced today again, so I was wondering if there is a coating i could put for it to last even longer.. ideas?

An expansion tank should last longer than 6 months.

The coolant filler cap should have pressure relief valve? Clean the cap, make sure sufficient coolant is used to lower the boiling point. Every coolant change job require 2 bottles of 1.5L of BMW coolant @ around RM30/bottle.

Yeah i believe it should last more than 6 months as the second one lasted for a while.
My mech just added water without coolant. So far he did that for the 2nd tank lasted for almost 2 years.

I'm surprised to hear that, did you ask your mech the logic of not putting in coolant? ... It's important we add coolant since it raises the boiling temperature and also inhibits corrosion. Ideally we should use distilled water and mix with coolant. Ratio can be 70:30 up to 50:50 You can use tap water as long as you mix it with coolant.

Apparently that mechanic is some oldschool mech. He don't know words but hes experience is through troubleshooting. Somebody could have explained to him wrongly about the coolants being corrosive which it should be anti corrosive.

So i went to my regular BMW specialist in USJ19, he immediately topped it up for me with a bottle of revenol coolant at RM65. Also changed my hose as it was in bad shape for MR225.

the expension tank on my e34 lasted approx 6 years and on my e39 still ok after 3 years.maybe you got the cheapo one la .try getting ori from auto bav,surely will last > 5years.

errr.....just checking....you are filling the coolant to the KALT level and not full to the cap right?
if you are not,then that may be the reason coz you not giving space for coolant expansion

yes, this stupid thermostat is for the heat exchanger for Gb. It is located at the bottom and tends to stick up
when coolant expired. I found mine is coated with white material (silicate material).
