Exhaust Catalytic to changed or not to change?

hi sifus and fellow e36er. I was wandering if i replace my catalytic part with aftermarket parts to obtain better flow would the smoke come out from my exhaust smell? My engine is the M52B25 so it has a single pipe exhaust, and according to exhaust specialist its better to change my cat for better performance. Please share the pros and cons if i changed the cat part of the exhaust. So far i heard from my mechanic that it could smell really bad.

The cat is there to reduce harmful emissions. If you changed your stock cat to a higher flow one, you will theoretically gain more power/torque. Just like how changing to a 'sport' exhaust yield better performance simply because the system is flowing better now.

EDIT: without cats, your exhaust gasses will smell stronger but I don't see why that would be a problem (environmental concerns aside ) It does not smell REALLY bad la..pretty much like how it smells on cold starts in the morning.

Haha okie then. Maybe just hold up to the stock cat just in case. Thanx for advice. Yeah was planning to gain a little power/torque changing cat,exhaust and cai+knn filters.

yup, dont sell off your stock cat..the stuff it's made off is expensive! (think it's platinum or white gold or something) u won't believe how much it costs for a second hand stock cat..

oh btw, dont forget to do a remap as well after you get all those mods done :top:

if smelly at the back make sure later you wash yours properly bro..hehehe..but yah, after remove the cats walau weh the exhaust smell really strong..everytime inhale sure batuk..
