Hi all,My engine hood light won't light up after I switch on my headlights. Checked fuse (number 37) OK, checked bulb OK.What could it be?Is the wiring somehow attached to the locking mechanism or alarm? My logic is this, the light should be off if the hood is closed. Am I right here?Anybody with the wiring schematic would definitely help. My beloved Haynes manual is no longer with me. One of the guys from the now defunct BMM gang took it for good. Grrr...Thanks in advance.

affan,

how about the microswitch, does it ground properly when it trigger. Unplug the connector and short it to proper ground(earth) if nothing happen test it with multi meter for potential different between connector and ground. If you got potential different you already know right its the problem with ur switch. Else check Potential diff between ur mentol while conector grounded. Then it will give u idea which one caput.

fcv, where is the microswitch?
It located on front side on the driver side (just under the hood). You can't miss it. It is just near the headlamp. The switch look like the one install for the rear boot.

BTW, the lamp should work when the switch is grounded and the headlight is switched on.

Try checking using the following method.
1. Open the switch to exposed the internal of the bulb.
2. On the headlamp and check both of the terminals to ground or body with a voltmeter. There should be a 12 V at one of the terminal.
3. If there is 12 VDC on one of the terminals, short the other terminall that does not have voltage to ground. If the bulb light up, then the problem is your micro switch.
4. If there is no 12 VDC on either of of the terminal, then the problem is with the light switch in your car. You can swap the switch with one of the UDM member to confirm.

BTW, there should be another switch for the alarm.
