Most likely the problem could be due to leaking fuel at the clip of the fuel hose. I know that the E36 is infamous for leaking fuel at the fuel pump which is located under the passenger seat.Normally, it is quite easy to check. From the throttle body, check all the rubber hose for sign of oil leak or rubber being very soft or loose it elasticity. There are some rubber hose connecting from the AFM to throttle body. If I am not mistaken, there is another hose connecting from the throttle body to the engine compartment.</blockquote>
