What's the price difference between a 523i and a 530i (similar year?)? To me its just not worth to spend a couple of thousand dollars and gain a few hp unless the owner has done enough mods to the car in order to benefit from a chip upgrade. Something like a stroker kit or supercharger unit. 523i roadtax about RM780, 530i about Rm1680, what is RM900 per year? :) Everyone has their own priorities on whether to mod or not mod their cars, buy a high performance vehicle or not. Likewise, we all know why you mod your cars. And I supposed your M3 is already a real car, so why it still needs to be modded????? I am not against modding, but then again I am also realistic when it comes to modding. What I am trying to stress here is the cost of hp vs RM spent. In my case, I turbo'ed it because 1) i want to experience what turbo charging is all about and 2) cost wise its more effective than to do an engine conversion. Do I have any regrets of not getting a M3? Honestly no, forced induction cars are more interesting to drive when the boost kicks in :) and hp gains are pretty simple to achieve compared to NA cars. And I am here to give advice based on my experience, nothing personal against anyone. I have seen double-vanos cars which only gained 4hp at the wheel after chipping and the installer admitted the gains on M52TU and M54 engines are pretty limited. And thats my advice to Jerman as a friend, not as a trader. And if he is driving a single vanos unit, he should go for a chip, thats what I have told him during Hari Raya.
