Our last check with SC has confirmed that we (E90 320i) are running on NGK Iridium as our OEM. For those who understand spark plugs, you will know what are the difference between copper, platinum, and iridium. The manufacturer recommended replacement interval for iridiums are 125k km. Our E90 however, conservatively set it to 100k km in the OBC. So our plugs technically can last 100k km, safely. However, other conditions may have caused premature wear and tear of the iridiums. Like for BMWs ' case, only 75k km.. what have caused it to become heavy carbonised? Burning too rich? engine oil seeped in? Why? Clogged air filter? Why wouldn't the O2 sensor pick up the rich burning and compensate accordingly? Platinum plugs recommended replacement intervals are 20k km. Was this set in your OBC, BMWs?!
