This happened 5 days ago and it happended again this morning. Both mornings were cold and I noticed that after I insert the keyfob into the slot and when I tried to press tha brake paddle, it is very stiff and very hard to push down. When I hit the start button, the chime goes off, car engine does not start but air cond comes on. After that, I removed the key, then tried to do the same again, it starts on the second time. I got the car new in April 2012.Anyone here experienced this before?

yes. mine just happened this morning. i am guessing its the batteries or starter.

Need to make sure the key fob is fully insert and the catch is engaged with the sound "tak".

My 09 E87 has this stiff brake issue too, but so far this has not prevented me from starting the car.

I guess should be the stiff brake problem rather than key fob/battery/starter. Because the stiff brake doesnt allow you to press the brake deep enough to disengage the electronic starter, so you couldnt start the car. If happen again, try press the brake harder and start again. Also, you might look into stiff brake problem.

Happens to me too especially after I leave my car undriven for one week (which in my memory only happened once when I went overseas). The brake was too stiff for the sensors to tell the ignition that the brake has been depressed.

My brakes was fine until I changed the fluids perhaps about a year ago. There was murmurings of leak from brake cylinders but so far my brakes are fine.

Some new developments on this issue. I inserted the key as usual into the ignition slot. It was fully inserted because I could hear the "click" sound. I press the START button, an error message appears and says "key not in ignition". I took the key out, waited for 3 seconds, redo it them only it starts. This was a morning start again.

Suspecting the key may be a problem, I changed to my other key.

It has been 2 weeks now and the problem has not recurred. In fact the key I was using previouisly was the spare one. I changed to the spare one after 4 months to keep the battery charged.

Now this sounds like what I have had before. I changed batts and its still the same. Time to send your key to the SC to check. Mine is being replaced by SC now. They diagnosed my remote is cuckoo dy. New remote ordered.

Thanks for the tips tIANcI. Will talk to Ingress guys about this.

Astroboy - mine is E90 and unfortunately it does not have comfort access.

U drop your FOB a lot ka? until FOB sot d.. :4:

Astroboy ... Want the truth? BMW FOB is FCUK. Got that? I got the car back today, SC said all done. Went to test properly, still FCUKED UP. Comfort access does not work properly even with a new FCUKED up FOB from Germany. How's that? Nice or not? BMW mah, your favourite brand right? Such an amazing brand. Problem after problem. :) :) :)

According to AB SC, there is no batt in FOB but still need to use it once a month to keep it "alive"? Is this true?
