dear, forum friends, lately i hear sound of my radiator fan spin at high speed.what is the possible reason/s for it.could it be due to thermostat faulty or the water valve blocked or unable to open?

this topic has been discussed before. Most likely you were on a spirited drive and the car is just cooling down. Not a worry at all....I have it once in a while when I drive more 'ganas' then usual :)

I experienced the same. Any reduction in the coolant level? If you need to top-up say, 200-500ml weekly then there could be a leak somewhere which may affect the fan speed?
Fix the leak first.

does e60 comes with 2 speed radiator fan? lower speed when engine is warm and high speed when it is hot?

If not mistaken yes as to what my mech said when asked. I too was alarmed cause the fan was darn loud...

i recalled merc has always had a boeing engine sound from its radiator fan like w124 :)

errr, E60 electric fan should be variable speed. The speed is dependent on the coolant temperature and the air-con compressor pressure.

They do not work with a thermostat.

agree the thermostat needs to be changed, had a similar issue and resolved- will eventually save your water pump from going bust

Yes , just wanna share the experience looking at the parts diagram can't solve the problem.

I think is my turn to contribute, my car e60 523 radiator fan was extremely loud after engine running for 15 min for idle, just like old days mercedes s class. No faulty shown on i drive. Send to mechanic, diagnostic show thermostat failure. Get it replaced cost around 2xx plus, the problem solved.

picture please of the thermostat.

i have the same problem.. fan is making a big noise after driving for about 10 minutes. according to my mech and the diagnostic result, it shows thermostat malfunction.. they suggest me to change both the thermostat and water pump, my decision is to change thermostat first, hopefully it solves the issue
