i recently noticed some oil leak on the floor.. took for a check and it was engine oil leaking from the oil filter housing...i understand that there is a rubber seal at the interface between the oil filter housing and the engine block..will changing this suffice.i was advised to change the whole oil filter housing at a cost of RM1550.00 (part only) as replacing the seal would not guarantee that it will not leak soon.anyone out there with this similar experience..regards

try few other reliable mech for the diagnose, giving u more opt if u can save,

on my friend e46 yr99 have the same problem , solve it wit rm 160 , onli change the housing will do , is a common problem for m43 engine . the mec. says

Guys,
Which WShop you went for the change?
I just got the same problem last few days...

Heritage off Taman Seri Manja, their great in my books. Almost wanted to change mechanics once because of my old e36 but I guess it was more the car....!

BM9700,

If you don't mind, can you share with us which mechanic do you visit?

cheers

hi,

i was strongly advised to change the oil filter housing @ RM1550..i would have thought that the rubber gasket would suffice but went with the expert advise and changed the housing..i go to herritage..my second time there and approx 4K spent..first time also approx 4k..any input much appreciated..

regards

Did mine at Subang Wheellers, cost me RM150. Call me at 019-3113446 if you need the add/tel

Hey Brader,

It seems that the dudes in Heritage have convinced you to spend more than the RM150 that could have solved you problem. RM1550 is a lot of money. Unless they have a more valid reason than "no guarantee it'll last", I think you may need to have a chat with the dudes at Heritage.

This could happen to any one of our bros and sis' in the club and we dont want anybody else here forking out that large sum again to resolve a minor problem.

Lets set the record straight.

Cheers dudes.

Just done mine in Wshop in PJ, oil leak problem (E46)

OIL Filter Housing Gasket (28), Engine wash(10), labor(50), Engine oil(47)

TOTAL: RM135.00

mine also start leaking, how long does it take to mend the problem.
1 day , 2 day or couples of hours.

Gents, had an engine oil leak recently when car was about 61,000km. Changed 3 different gaskets, 2 at the top of the engine and one at the bottom. Summary:-

1) Valve Gasket set (RM102);
2) Housing Gasket (RM45)
3) 'O' Rings and a Lipstick 'O' Ring (RM30);
4) Labour for above (RM145);
5) Oil Sump Gasket & Labour (RM250);

In hindsight, I should have changed one at a time, as in, just change the gaskets on the top first. Then if still leaking, change the oil sump gasket.

Ah, bmw, banyak masuk workshop.

Yes, identify each problem thru elimination, but in the end, imagine the time & effort of doing that.

Yikes.

For the cost conscious only Daniel, if some of you feel spending RM500 plus inclusive of labour to replace a couple of gaskets is fine then it makes more sense........ case of "one man's meat ......"
