Welcome to the club. To answer your question, (depending on which model you are getting 318-M43, 320-N42, 320-M54, 325 M52Tu/M54, 328-M52tu/M54, 330-M54 or M3-S54) some of the common issues (off my head) are :- 1) For N42 (first generation 4 pot valvetronic engines), sludge issue, premature coil plug failure. However, if these problems are rectified, then it should not re-occur 2) Transmission failure above 170k km, more so with the older models like 325 manufactured in year 2000/2001 and etc 3) Expansion tank cracking 4) Premature conrod bearing wear (M3, pre february 2002 models) 5) SMG Hydraulic actuator failure (325/330 sport limited edition) Not all cars are affected, it depends on well the car has been taken care off by the previous owners. As for maintenance, there are plenty on the list mentioned by Hellraiser. Generally, most of these shops can do the repair works as these cars have been around long enough for them to know and rectify the known issues. As for me and a few other members, we go BM World at Desa Tun Razak. Price is so-so, but they are competent and get the job done efficiently. Hope this helps. Cheers
