Hi guys,My friend pick me up and was driving in his car on the way back to Shah Alam on the Elite Highway when suddenly his car engine was choking and revs just died off. Sounds like the engine starved of air or fuel. Stoppped the car and try starting again ok but when rev can only go to 4k rpm b4 engine sounded like drowned and died off again. Sorry dunno how to describe anymore.Anyway disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes. Restarted and it was ok. No fault code whatsoever displayed. Drove safely back home. Any of you guys have had similar experience? What could be the problem? My friend he's a fellow forumer Erzazei. His car is 2003 SMG2 model. Just posting on his behalf bcoz i was there when it happened. He told me it had happened b4 a few times but when send it for diagnostic check with APD could not fault anything. He is confused now.Cheers

Could be the crankshaft sensor about to give way.

for my E36, when the crankshaft sensor failed, it will cut out the ignition and the fuel pump as a fail safe measure.

enkil..telefon la pak mat tanya kat dia.. tak pun hantar je kat dia...

Oh Erzazei from the other forum.

Check the Air Mass sensor.

Cheers

Bro... the Air Mass and O2 sensor were changed couple of months ago. I did cleaned the Air Mass Flow sensor yesterday with CRC Air Mass Sensor cleaner but the problem keep on occurring :(

Did the diagnosis test @ APD yesterday noon with Bro. Enkil and no fault detected by them.

Anybody face this before? (While driving the engine suddenly stalled, rpm dropped and when floor the gas; it wont go more than 4000rpm......... and sometimes died)

have you check the crankshaft sensor?

MAF and O2 sensor may cause idling problem but seldom stall the car.

You have stalling problem. Stalling can comes from:-
1. Faulty crankshaft sensor.
2. faulty fuel pump
3. chocked fuel filter
4. vacuum leak in hose.

Im afraid its the engine faulty, diagnose wouldnt solve this problem. Did u revved it before it died? like Nazrie said call la pak mat, APD and pak mat both are my friend i believe pak mat had more experience with troubleshooting. Or else ah wai if u dont mind throwing money :D but theyre good.

ferrari dia bikin..lamborghini dia bikin..porsche dia bikin .. bentley, RR , Aston .. apa lagi mau..BMW ..sempoi je tuuu :D.. manyak tereris ooo itu orang... call tanya saja sama dia dulu ... free consultation maaaa...better than shooting in the dark..

I've encountered this issue a while ago with a 325i in Oz. Driving about 80kmh slowing down for a right hand turn and suddenly the car chuckles as if it was choking on a hot dog, and finally engine dies. Quite a scary feeling when you lose power and the steering becomes all heavy.

Anyway, took it to the BMW service centre and they said it was a failed camshaft sensor. Had to get that changes.

Choking on a hot dog? Hahahahha. Anyway thanks for the information. I guess my fren's still sorting it out.

This M3 cabrio issues I've long heard b4 you pick it up. Guess the previous owner didn't got it solved.

As thy put it, camshaft sensors sounds like the culprit.

Btw, any warning light on the cluster?

PM me Pak Mat's contact also. Require his expertise to diagnose why my car slightly stutters at 5500 - 6000 rpm in 3rd gear. Thanks!
