hi merz_e46, This could be due to some reasons. But I had similar problem before. One morning it was running fine, then after came back from lunch (parked under hot sun), blower didn't turn on at all. After doing some research, I change the Final Stage Unit (FSU). This FSU seems to be "controlling" the blower fan. If you are handy, you can try changing it yourself. I am sorry coz I didnt take any pics of the DIY replacement for this. It took me nearly one hour to dismantle it coz I had to sit in an upside down position (plus, the access to it was very small place) But the image below is how the FSU looks like. This my old part taken out. My ride is 320i E46 2.2 2001 Japan Spec. For my car, this item is located underneath the centre dashboard (near where you rest your left leg). Perhaps you can try borrowing FSU from other friends that has E46 and try if it is really your FSU giving you problem or not rather than jumping into conclusion that it is something major. Item no 3 is the FSU Btw, if you switch on the a/c and you don't here the compressor kicking in with the hissing sound, then it might just be your compressor (or other parts) as bro eediot mentioned .. :)
