I also rev until the redline then only I upshift. If not the gear stays. If I slow down only the gear auto downshift if I forgot to downshift. Normally when entering a corner or wanna get the pick up I'll downshift & rev up until redline then I upshift. If the gear auto upshift when reach redline it will protect the gearbox & engine but I never experience auto upshift.Frankly speaking I prefer tiptronic as it combine comfort & power. Only one thing hv lil doubt on the reliability.My experience drag wt E36 325 manual on track give me advantage as after 2nd to 3rd gear to 4th gear changes faster although my E39 is very much heavy.</blockquote>
