When I got my e46 at 85k km; I changed my radiator and expansion tank right away. Until now at 120k km it is still running good. When my dad bought his e39 at 65k km he didn't change his radiator and expansion tank. There is no leak or whatsoever. Well one nite when he is on his way back from Genting; his radiator burst. He didn't take the risk of driving back so got his car towed to my mechanic and got everything changed. So I guess it's safer for you to change your radiator and expansion tank.
