Surprised if the cost is RM1-2K for changing the two hoses. Mine was RM400 inclusive of labour at BMWorld.  Check if this is for replacing the rack.  With lesser oil, the steering will get heavier and heavier until it will no longer function properly. I feel your pain longestdrive... once you fix all this, do go for a looooooong drive and enjoy the car.
