5'ver Unkers,Could you advice me what to do with changing/upgrading the radio antenna for my E39. Originally it comes with this BT (UK) Radio Antenna at the rear glass. But the reception in Klang Valley seems to be very poor. Can I get change it or get booster or something? I believe someone has done something to get better radio reception. Recommendation of shop to go in Klang Valley would be appreciated. Thanx.

hi to all the senior guys here in the forum, i would like to inquire as to where i could purchase the antenna the arec here has problem with ?

It seems mine was stolen from the car and i have been combing all the local half cuts but to no avail.

The car belongs to my dad and i am just helping out in looking for the antenna.

Any one?

The radio antenna is integrated to the rear windscreen defrost element.

The antenna if you have one mounted on the rear windscreen high position is a GSM telephone aerial. If you have one of those, your car is prewired from the factory to install a car phone kit. Check inside the left trunk cover. You should have a black terminal connector with a red colored plastic blankoff and some co-axial cables connected zip tip tied and unused.

Locally I have not seen a car equipped with a BMW car phone. Since we are in the 21 century with digital 3G, this technology is obselete. The basic phone is a Nokia, looks like an ATUR unit if you can recall (011) car phones from the 90's looks like.

wc9922.... ic thanks for the information.

So has anyone managed to rectify a problem with the car radio with choppy radio receptions? How did you guys do it? Mind sharing....

I was thinking of helping my dad solve his problem.

Dear Jeisern,
Try Chan Auto in Jalan Klang Lama ... but they will slaughter your. I have asked ...

Dear Arec,
Another option is to install the Bosch front windshield aerial, it is cheaper. It sticks on the front inner side windscreen. Most Car Accessories shop have this aerial.

ic.....

Mind telling me the ball park figure of the Beemer fix?

The bosch is a last resort since my dad wants to preserve the original parts of the car.

Its quite cheap tho....less than RM 100 plus installation for the internal winshield antenna.

You can try this below and see if the reception is improved.

This is from the Tech Service Info.

Poor reception with radio BMW Business CD RDS (world device CD 43)
Cause: Incorrect reception area set.

Radios concerned: Business CD RDS (world set CD 43)

Situation: The Business radio CD RDS (world device CD43) is designed for all reception areas in the world. If the right reception area is not set in the radio menu ”AREA”, the result can be poor reception.

Action: Setting the reception area

Procedure: Initial commissioning of the radio (replacement device, new device)

Fit replacement radio in vehicle and switch on radio.

The message ”NO AREA” appears in the radio display (only during initial operation of the radio)

Now switch to the required region (”Europe”, ”USA”, ”Canada”, ”OC+RDS”, ”Japan”).
a) On E46 radio and DIN unit with ”Station button 1”.
b) On E39 radio with first softkey (Station button 1).

Now switch off radio (AREA is saved).

Procedure: Changing a reception area that has already been set

a) On E46 and E39 radios

Switch on service mode (switch on radio and press ”m” button within 8 seconds)

Now press the ”+ button” as many times as required until ”AREA” is displayed in the radio display.

Use ”Station button 1” now to select the suitable AREA in the menu and switch off the radio (AREA is stored).

b) On DIN radio

Same procedure as for E46, E39 radio

On the DIN radio, depending on the set reception area, a CODE input might be necessary after the changeover.

cheers and let us know if it works.
