Over the last couple of weeks i watched my oil light will flicker every time i come to a stop, or when the rpm is low. But the thing is, it doesn't happen everyday, only on certain days after a long drive. Consulted this with a bmw mechanic, and was told that this happens when its time for a oil change. So today, i did a full oil change Revenol Full Synthetic 5w40 and filter. Everything was fine until i got nearer to home, and the light started of flickering again. Tried with shutting off the car and restarting it.. still on... Only happens when idle, as soon as it blip my throttle, it goes away, when rpm drops to idle it starts to flicker again.Did a quick search about this... some say Oil Pressure Switch, some say Oil Pump coming to an age and needs to change, some say bigger major issues..Has anybody came across this issue before? any recommendations? Is there any way to fix this? Is this an indication of some key component wearing out over time (besides my wallet)?

d oil pressure switch gets weak over time.change it .do the simplest and cheapest things first.

yup, i guess this should be my next plan, but the thing i've learned over the internet that i have to drain out the engine oil first to change/replace the oil pressure switch... dang! i just did the oil change... :(

could be a faulty sending unit (switch). they can turn the light on when they fail, or get weak. the only way to be certain about the oil pressure is to take a reading with a manual guage. if you don't have one, to buy one would be more than a switch itself (most times).

in order to take a reading, the switch has to be removed anyway, so it may be a guess, but if it were my car i would get a new switch.

other things that could create erratic/low oil pressure would be a restricted sump pickup, weak pressure relief spring (in the pump), and worn pump gears.

hope this helps.

exactly bro... see the oil light keep's flashing when the rpm drops to idle.. but mine is slightly different, it flickers... but the warning is the same...

Mine is M60B40 engine.

Sent my car to Bomin Auto for check up. Thought to change the engine oil pump to give it a try, but then mechanic said the oil pump will last for the whole life of the engine. Unless it lost pressure then the engine will burn off to.

Now what i do is to flush the engine & put in the new engine oil to test it.

Hope the flush did clear out some sludge from the pump or engine.

PS: I did changed the oil pressure switch. But still the same error exist.
