folks, i just had my windscreen replaced. i chose MSG (as it is just ~rm500 vs ~1600 for sicursiv or sekurit).just some questions from doing the repair:1. the old windscreen used to be held by little white clips all around it - but the workshop man says it is difficult to get replacement clips. so the new windscreen is held by some kind of black tarry looking glue all round?2. why is MSG so much cheaper - is there something special about the oem bmw glass material?

What I know is MSG is locally made thus cheap. Is MSG laminated? Try do a search. This has been discussed.

You probably didn't get laminated glass for that pirce, but I could be wrong.

MSG glasses for BMW are laminated as far as I know and also seen a few on the E36 and E46.

The black tar look alike substance are the windscreen glue/silicone. The clips are easily available through any BMW spare parts dealer, if I remember correctly you need about 18 pieces, RM6 bucks a piece. The clip does play a part in holding the windscreen.

Good luck.

BMW glass is water repellent. I don't use rain-x on my windshield but rain water beads nicely on it and just slide away, just how it is like if you use rain-x or similar stuff on a normal glass.
