Notice this the last 1 2 weeks. When I start the car, there's petrol smell. Not all the time, maybe once out of 5 times I started the car. The smell was very strong. What can it be?

bro...is the smell from the inside or outside? and...during any fuel level?

Inside and outside ... but most probably outside but it went inside when I open the door. Any fuel level as nowdays I try to keep it to min since I dont know whats the cause.

i hv the same problem...check the fuel lines/pipes...inside does it smell when the air con is switched on?

sorry, dun have any idea...

mine is everytime i fill up to full tank, then there'll be smell coming out from the back seat i suspect...asked naidu previously, he thinks it may be due to the spoilt seal...haven't really gotten it for check though as i just try not to pump full tank...

king82... if I have to guess your problem is probably due to some small cracks on the plastic fuel pump housing on top of the fuel tank. I have the same problem. If you pump full then there is the petrol smell. If you remove the cover to the fuel pump at the boot area you will see that its wet with petrol. So now I only pump 50 liters at a time.... no problem. :top:

thanks for the information, seech...

you didn't get yours changed or replaced? i wonder how much trouble and $$ to get it replaced. it's not a big issue, but if i forget not to pump full tank, then it'll be a bit annoying especially for the passengers.

happy monday!

if only when full, it's the fuel pump seal. If not, it's either the fuel hoses connected to the fuel pump. Get it fixed quick. If you smoke, better not, because it can be extremely dangerous with these fumes/leaks

yup, only when it's full tank...luckily i don't smoke...and no one can smoke in the car :p

will send the car for checks and repairs once i get my bonus...it's only middle of the month and my account is dry...sigh...

thanks affan66 =)

buzzlie...back to your topic...is it possible to determine where the smell comes from? e.g. if you suspect it's from outside, then open up your windows and get some fresh air, then close windows and see whether the petrol smell continues...if not, maybe you are right. anyway, if you have time, haha...get professional advice lor...

No Bro, not from air-cond. And the difficult part is that ... its not consistent. Macam biskut ... now u see it, now u dont.

Possibly seal and hoses but also possible that the plastic housing is cracked. Next time pump full and open up the access panel in the boot to confirm. Might be any one of the possibilities listed.

I had the same problem and it was the fuel pump/float plastic having fine line crack. Got it replaced... part costs about 750. There's one small effect (at least one) if you don't do anything... your fuel consumption is marginally higher because fuel constantly evaporates from the fine crack (ie. same issue as coolant tank has fine crack lines and water level dropped) I figured that out because whenever I left the car unused for several days, my mileage was always lower when I pumped full tank again and did the math. With the new part, that kind of drop never occur again.

wow...quite expensive...sigh...there goes a big part of the small bonus...

Already checked. Aiyaa ... small problem, just the fuel hose worn out. The reason why its like biscuit, now u see, now u dont was bcoz when its cold, it is loose. When its hot, it expand and the leakage stop.

Thanks guys.

Yaa lucky me ... after hearing the experiences from u guys, I was very anxious to hear whats the outcome from my mechanic. Finally, the bill turned out to be just 2 figures. Smiling ear to ear when I drove back.

Bros,

I have the same problem with my E32 & E30 - Changed both the fuel hoses (2 lines ) in the engine compartmnent -

my problems solved.

Cheers!
