I dont know technical,but heres what my mechanic says. A small amount of white smoke from the exhaust is evident in the morning, when stationery. Engine oil consumption is also slightly more than normal. Cheap way out: top overhaul. I guess this means changing the gaskets. Problem is dunno if the pistons are in good shape when all is out in the open. Would your conrods etc be something I should be looking for in case I need to replace the pistons?
