About time to change my worn down brake disc, just wondering any recommendations from the sifu's on any good OEM brands to use?. Some I have heard of are :1) Balo (Germany)2) Oz (Germany)3) Brembo (Germany)Are using OEM brake disc ok or its more highly recommended to go for ori's. Have heard that OEM's may give you brake noise depending on the brake pads you use but other than that its as good as the ori's in term of stopping power. Anyone care to comment? TIA

Yup, I would highly recommend Textar (or is it Texstar?). Jurid also quite good as they manufactured pads for BMW as well (Textar too!). If you are getting Jurid, get it only from Bavarian Auto or AB, I have bad experiences with Jurid imitations!! Yes those are imitations upon close inspection, and hell yeah they were creaking and etc.

I bought a pair of Jurid from BA before in late 2003/early 2004. RM115 only but he (Wong) stated very clearly no warranty. After installing it, makan very fast, less than one year finished liao.

Wear and tear is part and parcel of it, but when its start to creak and crack, then its a rip off (imitation).

SiFu's.... what abt the brand of brake disc? Any recommendations?. I think most of you are referring to the brake pads (Jurid, Textar, etc).

Got a quote for OZ OEM (Germany) and it was very affordable so not sure if its any good.

Schumann, ATE and Zimmerman (in Eng Soon is cheap=SGD 100) are all good enough.

Bundy, are you going to sell me your Zimmerman cheap cheap? Or did youit sell them off togther with the Bilstein Sport?

Zimmerman is cross drilled and will have a lot of brake squeel. My grooved ATE also has brake squeel.

Tiew!!!! Looks like next time I go SG will have to buy some brake discs.

Anyway, not that I am racist, but how come so many brands of discs sound Jewish - Schumann, Zimmerman?

Because they are the ones with an aptitude in engineering stuffs hahaha...

Sikit punya off-topic since question is on pads...

Al,

Any way of telling imitation jurid pads from originals (for that matter the different grades)? Perhaps rub/smell, lick/taste, knock/listen, etc... or visual inspection by the more experienced like yourself? don't want to wait until creak and crack to discover i kena screw liao...

Hi,

Just wondering, is it much cheaper to get parts (like brake pads and other stuff) from Singapore, or just marginal??

I notice that many members get their wear/tear parts from Spore, but is wondering if the cost is justified if i drive all the way there to get a whole bunch of parts??

Also, besides Eng Soon, who are the other suppliers??

Thnx

It will definately be cheaper to get parts from SG but how much you save will depend on the parts in question. Certain parts like brake disc you can sometimes save as much as 40 - 50% compared to the $ here.

Other parts the savings will vary but in general expect to save at least 20 - 40% compared to here. So if you have quite a few wear and tear parts to replace, then its definately more worthwhile to make a trip down to get the parts. If its just one item that you are after then you do the math lor and see if its worth while coz driving down coz it ain't that cheap also nowadays with the hike in toll charges to drive down.

If you take the 2nd link to SG, the toll to and fro will already cost ya ard RM100 not including petrol. And if you go into SG on a weekday don't forget the SG VEP charges of SGD30 per day. I think that has been reduced to SGD20 per day now but thats still RM46 to us.

In a nutshell, buy lots of parts and exp parts then worthwhile lor else might not be worth the hassle liao.

Hi eHoe,

Thnx for the feedback, u confirm what i suspect. Guess I hv to get my pals in Spore to help in getting some parts if i need small parts lo....

Dont hope my E34 needs many many replacement parts at the same time, die lo... whahahah

I'll assume that u do shop in Spore, any other place than Eng Soon?? And whre is Eng Soon exactly??

Bro, whr u located har??

Actually it depends on the items you are planning to get. Pads are about the same price, similarly for shock absorbers. The Zimmerman discs were cheap because they are old stocks. Supervision HID was going for SGD520, which you can also get for a slightly higher price. So I can say, not everything is cheaper there but of course I would call them before taking a trip there.

Erica, dunno how to explain it to you, but there are slight differences, very visible though!

Shocks absorbers same price in SG?. Hmm that wasn't the case for me. Inquired about a set of Koni Sport Adjustable Shocks for front and rear in KL (RM2.4k) as compared to SG exact same set for (SGD370 = RM850). Thats a saving of RM1.5k leh.

In my case I was referring to the Bilsteins. Off course if you want Kone shocks then should go to Rochor Center, complete set plus springs is less than RM 1500. Like I said, depends on what you wanna buy, the bilsteins are more or less the same. Of course a lot of it also depends on whether you know where to get it cheap2 locally

Ahhh...

I do understand its more prudent to shop around for prices before actually buying, makes a lot of savings.

So, this is the place I will refer to for good cheap (but reliable) places to buy parts next time.

But donwan get racun lo...

Thnx AL, eHoe.

Eng soon is okie. If you happen to be in Sg, then drop by and check them out lor. Prepare a list of things you wanna buy and call them first. Pads and absorbers are more or less similar (dun forget exchange rate is going up and also GST). Of course there are certain things that is more than 30% cheaper (O2 sensor for example).

Rgds
