I happened to come across some chips on ebay which are for my M40 157 ECU, see two links here:http://cgi.ebay.com/EURO-Performance-chip-1987-92-BMW-E30-318i-is-15-HP_W0QQitemZ390252902906QQcategoryZ32624QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D4888782133029549485http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-Performance-Chip-E30-318i-88-to-89-ECU-157_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZalgoQ3dLVIQ26ituQ3dUCIQ26otnQ3d3Q26poQ3dLVIQ26psQ3d63Q26clkidQ3d4888781884727856068QQ_trksidZp3286Q2em7QQcategoryZ33597QQitemZ140416923741My question is does it really work?I'm also worried because most E30s overseas, they use Turner or MarkD chips which seem more reputable, but those are only available for M20s, M40 no one wants to make. :p These chips seem like generic ones, so dunno can trust or not.

i've checked with some mech reg the performance chip for m40. all of the suggest me to put the big chip called M42. DOHC chain driven. hahahahaha

we're in thye same boat. mee too searching info about the performance chip now.
not really into m42 conversion at the moment.

Mark D chip > everything else.
I do know that Mark D has a chip for m42, but not sure about m40.
If I were you, I would stay away from ebay chips.

Yeap, however, as mentioned, MarkD, Turner, Conforti, etc do not have chips for M40, hence ebay ones are the only alternative I've found. I checked the sites, they don't have chips for the 157 ECU.

I did however find some other forums where they mentioned using the Proformance chip before and got decent results, again not as good as MarkD, but no choice here honestly lol.

Honestly, the bang for buck would be low for the M40 engine... Just tahan until u get the M42 in there...

Guys....have heard much bout conversion to M42 but had not know the specs ie 0-100km/h in ? sec, top speed of ? Anyone can enlighten? Would be really interesting to compare it to regular M40.

Hope fellow M42 drivers can share your experience. Thanks.

Hi Evilnickwong,
Why dont you have a walk thru to Blue Green Motor Werks...Talk to Michael...He sells uprated ECUs for BMWs and I have done mine with him...

Standard ECU is no where to what he offers and I am using the uprated ECU for 3 months now...satisfied...

AFAIK the uprated ECU involves programs suitable to bring the best out of your bimmer with some of the internal components changed for the reliability of the uprated ECU.

Oh so how much does bluegreen charge for such an ECU?
Sounds interesting, but doesn't sound much diff from a chip so far haha.
