Slightly unrelated, but I've noticed that in my E30 M40, the aircon duct under my dash are these soft, ribbed hoses, rather than the hard plastic ducts that you have here. Any idea why the difference?

Local assembled E30 318i are with those flexi hoses. The aircon blower unit is also different, that's why the sliders don't work.

Fabian is right. I got these as extra coz i retrofitted the original system back into the E30. Now can use the sliders

Really silly if you look at it... In essence AB (at that time) sold a car with bits that DIDN'T WORK (the sliders), and got away with it. Very embarrassing when ppl asked "why not working ah?" and the reply was "not working coz it's standard"...
