dude...why replace when you can upgrade??

E21 - with 2.5 (like CAD xxx) with open rear diff ...

waaaa .. can drift worrrrr ...
Upgrade ?? ceh .. buang duit jeeee ... :hmmph:

The e21 can accept any m20 engine from the BMW family but you must retain the lower oil sump and pan to have clearance of the front crossmember. If the current engine is a six pot, no worries if not...............BTW, e21 half cuts are as rare as hen's teeth these days.

Good Luck!

so the lesson is don't dabble in an e21 unless you got the moola to buy the parts overseas? there are 2 e21s in my neighbourhood. one just sits on one spot and i've never seen it driven away before. maybe it's waiting to be 'scavenged'.

I think there is more to it than just plonking an engine from the e30. The speedo will not work for instance. I have seen an e21 with the 2.5 engine from the e30 where the dashboard , wiring harnesses and instrumentation were also transplanted.

There will be a fair amount of work.

Might as well plonk in a 3.5 litre M30 into it like Hartge did. U will also need to get the differential off an e24 to cope with the additional torque

Don't forget to upgrade your brake booster and calipers (go for Girling 4 pot - from Volvo 240)

Good luck!

The one that I know plonk an E30 engine into his engine bay.
The rest are the same ...

Maybe there are some wiring issues. It was quite some time back

Anything can be made to fit. Its just how much risk you want to take and money you want to spend. But if you are thinking of plugging and playing, then no. Suspension set up of e30 is different from that of the e21.

For a real e21 racun experience, have a look at this page:

Jeremy Remyvos' e21 320/6

You can see the rebuilding process that he went through:

Jeremy's site

A review by Jeroen of www.bmwe21.net:

Started off, a few years ago, with a 320/6 that needed a restoration. Things went out of hand a bit... some examples:

Body completely stripped, reinforced, known weakpoints prevented
Suspension based on E30 M3 front struts and the E24 635CSi rear axle to allow bigger brakes, better suspension and to have a wider choice of wheels... in come the 18" E39 M5 alloys
Engine needed more power... how about a S50B30 E36 M3 power plant with 286 HP?
Interior based on E30 M3 with leather seats but with the E36 instrument cluster fitted into the E21 housing, E36 OBC
EPC stainless steel exhaust.. from the outside the car had to retain the looks of the 320/6 (well as far as possible with 18" wheels ) so a single exhaust tailpipe. It sounds even lovelier than the average small six E21, until you step on the throttle ....

Lipis,
Just get a ride in Ichiwan's with his H&R spring... Typically, if it's BMW, you hv big chance to get what u want...

dude,

There is a E21 lying around nearby Skar19's house...

road tax due year 2000 untill now still there.

U can PM Skar19 and check it out with him whose car is that..

Regards,
Kinaka

Lipis,
