Nothing below should be construed as condoning high speeds. In public roads, your life and the life of others are in your hands. Having said that, the e36 2.5 liter or 2.8 liter can go quite fast, and do so safely, provided the car is in Excellent condition. Remember, at 240+kph of the many postings here, you cannot afford for anything to go wrong. When I first got my car, I needed a long deserted stretch of straight road because it was difficult to steer at high speed; I could only aim it in the general direction of the horizon and hang on. After much loving refurbishment (steering rack, camber kit, suspension, xbrace, good tires, good brakes, ad nauseum), the 328 is now agile and responsive, whatever the speed. So, go only as fast as your car's condition would safely allow.
