I sent my e60 for repair at a local workshop at jalan bukit kechil, kuala terengganu. I think that the charges are quite expensive.1. 1 set of upper arm bush -180.002. Lower arm LH - 420.003. Lower arm RH - 420.004. oil fiter OX387D E90 325i - 35.005. shell helix 10w/40 - 2 x110.006. press bush - 20:007. labor - 80.008. to carry out service / insp - 45.009. inst lower arm - 90.00services they provided quite nice and friendly.maybe members from kuala terengganu area knows where reasonable BMW workshop. Thanks Hasru

The oil filter and engine oils are priced reasonably. The labour charges at 235 is equivalent to charges at some workshops in KL, which is ok to me. the bushing and lower arms, not sure.

For me, i will always ask the workshop which parts need to be changed. Then i go off and source it myself before going back to the shop to install.

looks reasonable to me..

parts of course they will mark up..its just the matter of how much je. then u decide whether ok to send it over again or another shop

try call spare part shop and dont be surprised

Bro,

Sent my E60 530D to a BMW specialist in Puchong to do some diagnostics.
I asked them for a quote on some parts and this was what i was given :

1) Battery Cable - Rm 1350
2) Suspension Link Rod - RM 95 each
3) Lower Arm - RM 435 a pc
4) PDC Sensor - RM 440 each
5)Labour To Install above items - Rm 300

I was curious so a quick call to Bavarian Auto gave me these prices :
1) Battery Cable - Rm 1200
2) Suspension link Rod - Rm 73 each
3) Lower Arm-Rm 395
4)PDC Sensor - Rm 380 each

And Eng Soon Singapore gave these prices :
1) Battery Cable- Rm 980
2) Suspension Link Rod- Rm 65 each
3)Lower Arm -Rm 287 each
4)PDC Sensor - Rm 338 each

So since im always in Singapore I will buy my parts there and send to a workshop here to install.I stand to save at LEAST Rm 300 which is a whole lot of diesel !

will the workshop owners be unhappy if you bring your own parts?

In my honest opinion they should not get upset.
My reasoning is such : If I have a problem with the part most likely the workshop will quickly blame the part supplier.
They are not going to honour any warranty and replace the parts.
The workshop will still have to go back to the parts supplier for any claims. If the supplier obliges the workshop will change it.But if the supplier refuses i doubt the workshop are gonna dig into their own pockets and compensate me.
Further more, a workshop is in business to "membaiki kereta" not to "menukar alat ganti"..in other words try to repair first before replacing.
Hence i feel they should not get upset if i bring my own parts.
Anyhow,my regular guy who maintains all my other cars has no issue with me bringing my own parts. Its not rocket science to change a couple of lower arms and link rods ..all mechanical so i believe my regular can handle it.

BUT this is just my opinion and others may feel differently.

Normal for workshop owners to mark up the parts. Cari makan maa

Bro Haywire,
What would you say is a FAIR markup of the parts prices for the workshops?
10%,20%,30% ?? Just your opinion please

you bring your own parts , just tell them charge higher labour . end of story . no need to hide in parts.

Hi, Bro trqamd5,
May I check with you, your regular WS is in JB ? Able to repair most continental car ?
Kindly advise.

Thanks for the inputs. I am noticing this trend but also heard some rants from the workshop owners. They might (or might not) to also blame your parts' quality or put the blame on the parts that you brought if they're not professional enough. Normally won't happen la...

I will normally let him get my parts unless it is too expensive (I get a quote from him verbally first) after which I will DIY myself unless I'm incapable

No my regular workshop is in Subang,KL..
They are very experienced in repairing old and new continental cars.
Plus they try to repair and save money for you before simply changing or swapping parts.
In fact they are also AAM's workshop who repairs AAM's vehicles. So if AAM trusts them they should be OK lah.

there are 2 BMW workshops in trg area, both of them are never accept any parts from owner.
