The problem with this unit is melted paintwork applied on the plastic part .Cars left parking under direct sunlight or older cars (more than 6 years) will have this symptom.Scratches can be easily developed even with soft cloth used during the cleaning of dashboard with ugly marks (including finger prints) left on the melted trim surface.DIY : How To Remove melted paintwork from plastic trim 1. To remove the part - must use special screw driver(for BMW/continental cars) to loose 3 screws on top portion and 2 screws under the wood panel. U need to peel off the wood panel from the dashboard first .2. Disconnect all wire connections ( 3 points) before removing the whole unit from the dashboard. 3. Use sharp plastic knife ( cake knife ) to remove all melted paint from plastic trim. Avoid using sharp metal objects such as knife to prevent scratches on it surface.4. Apply heavy duty cleaning liquid (non-corrosive) on the surface and wipe with cloth to clean the whole part till the sticky paint residue completely wipe out. 5. Ready for installation.
