Just like to report back and share...after 18 months of frustration I have finally nailed down the problem. All this while it was difficult to pinpoint the source of the rattling while keeping an eye on the road and the trips to the SC was utterly a waste of time - they never did solve the problem for me. I was so damn sure the noise was coming from inside the air-cond vents. Until one day I was stuck motionless in traffic for the longest time and having to content with an annoying loud rumbling exhaust from a souped-up Perdana that was right next to me. The rattling in my car grew louder in tandem with the rumbling Perdana. It made my blood boiled...and I started touching and feeling every part of the dashboard area to search for loose parts. And then I found it - the rattling wasn't from the dashboard...it was from the rear-view mirror holder!!! There's a tiny 0.5-1.0mm gap where it's supposed to sit flushed with the windshield. This is the source of the frustrating and agonising rattle. A 15-min DIY job with tape and foam solved 99% of the problem..not perfect but a major relieve. Next item...front suspension knocking sound...but that's different story. BMW Malaysia...are you listening??
