bros, can i replace the so called crankshaft sensor by myself (D.I.Y), what are the things that needs to be removed 1st to get to it?anyone has done it before?guide me please o wise ones :D :D thanksrgds

Trace the wiring up and you'll find the connectors. And when fixing a new one make sure of the gaps as shown

ersalle,

do i have to remove anything else to remove the sensor and reach it's connector?

I believe its a pretty straight forward thing to do, it basically plugs in to the engine wiring harness on one end and screws onto a bracket (sensor end) near the pulleys. It will be easier to have the car on a lift tho coz I think the path in which the CPS wiring runs is quite tight and behind all the pulleys, fans, etc. So reaching to remove and install the new cable will require access from top and bottom of the car.

More importantly when you secure the cable, make sure it doesn't have loose play or touching any of the pulleys or belts coz contact with those will mean the belts/pulleys will eat thru your cable!. I had this problem once before when the cable tie securing the cable came loose and the cable came in contact with the belt. Soon the belt cut half way thru the CPS cable and my engine died on me. So just make sure the cable is securely fasten and away from all moving objects.

Good luck if you decide to DIY else just send it to the mech. its a simple job should not take more than 30min or so.

Eh jgn lupa cabut wayar battery dulu, or else u'll get sparks flying off ekekekkeke

Remove fan shroud if necessary or what ever is blocking which i doubt. You can reach the sensor from the bottom and the connector to wiring harness from top like ehoe mentioned.

by assuming it's a simple job that i have dicided to D.I.Y it... :D :D

i've tried reaching the CPS from the top be4, it's reachable la... but i couldn't seem to find the other end of it (connectors).

i'll check again la.....

thanks guys

bro lipis,
i have diy this...in the car park outside my office.no choice as the car was stranded there for 3 days...day 1 - t/shoot,day 2 - buy parts, day 3 - pasang and started at first crank.
took 45mins.if yours is an m20,then the connector plugs into a connector under the inlet manifold, under the black harness plastic assembly.if you don't have a mirror, you can't see this.you have to feel for it.and be careful routing it behind the pulley as EHOE mentioned.make sure it's PROPERLY secured ie it should run inside the black plastic protective shroud, which sits in front of the upper timing belt housing.

the connectors shud be underneath the intake manifold.
Can DIY but depends on ur skills and knowledge.

rearrange the wires after putting in new crankshaft position sensor. Don't let the other pulley touching with it when engine started.

Don't over tighten the bolts...

Sorry to hijack this!

Question: What are the tell tale signs of a broken crankshaft sensor? Aside from not being able to start the engine (based on moots's descrpition, he managed to crank it after he fixed it)

If the car is able to start, the engine will run for a while then dies. The u try starting again, crank crank crank then it starts. After a while dies again. If u r driving the engine will suddenly die, if ur lucky it on's again while on the move hehehehe i had that experience b4. Once it is really dead, eventually, check your spark plug see got any spark. Thats it you know he's dead, if u wanna make sure thats the fault try finding a used ignition coil and swap to see if there is spark when cranking, if not spark confirm the crankshaft sensor is dead. So if ur car engine turns off suddenly for no apparent reason ehhehe thats the sign.
