hi to all sifus, just got my E46 318i checked at Ingress Auto and according to them, my exzos catalyctic converter has kaput.anyone has any idea how much does it cost to change the catalyctic converter? some shops quoted me between 3k-4k. :stupid:any other alternatives?thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions... :top:regards

replace it with used catalytic converter from kedai potong

go to your preferred exhaust shop and ask them to source for u

Don't take their word for it. Get a second opinion. I rarely encounter anybody with this kind of problem before. They could be "potong" you.

Run without a catalytic converter if you are not too concern with the environment. More power for sure :)

salam

my regular mechanic has claimed that there're tiny gold linings in all catcon but i still doubt it. and i've yet to ask uncle google.

btw, in the event that the catcon were to be removed, is it necessary to replace with some kind of muffler so as to create some back pressure besides getting the engine re-tuned?

i've got 2 of those taken out ...wanna try it out ...if yes let me know ...if it works .then pay me lorrrr ....

3~4K ..offer me friend friend price will do ....

hi all,

thanks for all the replies. appreciate it. well, so far there isnt any symptoms, just perhaps alittle noise from outside when stepping on the accelerator due to the broken part(s) inside the catalytic converter. things are pretty normal when driving inside the car. no unusual noises etc.

according to Ingress, it wont affect much, just perhaps alittle loss of power, alittle noise and slight increase in fuel consumption. any comments to that?

from my understanding the catalyctic cinverter is a device used to reduce/filter the toxicity of carbon emissions so is it necessary to get it replaced?

if so, any recommended exzos specialists that are reliable? or anyone with a spare unit?

if not, will it give slightly more power if removed?

any comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance =)

Dreamliner, do you have your "check engine" light lit up? i was 'diagnosed' with the same prob, given by the error code that appears.. catalytic bank etc2...according to mech, it s the cat conv that failed.
