hey....i would like to buy a used BMW Z3 1.9, year 99,Unregister.erm....any comment to me??..coz i just worry about that maintanance fees...Any Z3 owner pls give me some advise.....Thanks a lot:)

Henry,
Z3s are a perfect example of style over substance. And they don't look that great anyway. If ever there was a BMW underserving of it's UDM tag, it would be the Z3. If you can live with that, well, maybe you should go get a Nissan SERA or something.

The Necessary is absolutely correct (what's a Nissan SERA, BTW?). Rushed to production in response to the Mazda Miata's overwhelming success (esp. in the States), the parts-bin special never gained true performance credibility.

It was quite funny watching the Best Motoring crew trying their best to remain polite about the M Roadster in a supercar comparo. I recently came across an old Autocar review of the 2.8. They canned it on account of the weighty but slow steering, inordinate body roll and oh-so-safe understeering set-up. The only thing that wasn't disappointing was the engine. Stereotypical hairdresser's car, unfortunately.

Still, that's the performance and heritage perspective. None of the regular forummers here have one, as far as I know. I haven't seen TUDM posting here. He was pretty active in the previous forum though.

If I were you, forget the overpriced '99 onwards models that every grey-market dealer seems to be bringing in now. It used to be pretty popular back in the mid-90s, so why not seek those out instead?

I like the looks of the Z3 personally but If you want a true sports car, go for a Miata or an Elise.

Probably you meant Toyota Sera?!! :D

People buy cars for a loads variety of reasons. And which Z3? 1.9 or 2.8? or Z3M?

Personally, Z3 as a penis extender is defenitely a fashion statement. :D On top of thet it is immortalised in celluloid, so the weather the car is good or bad, that's immaterial, IMO.

Then, the price that you got to pay for the car, bearing in mind that the platform is based on the E36. With E90 cumming up, you are toking about a chassis that is 2 generations back. So, the expectations must lay within the period.

I have seen early December 2004, one Z3 1.9 went under the hammer at APAC for RM 100K flat. It is a 3 year old car in very good condition. For that price, I would say the winning bidder had a pretty good deal.

Maintainence? It cums with the territory... U kenot expect Perodua prices, nor that of a Porsche. But, since you U are buying what is essentially "used", the expectations have to be realistic. The car has been mothballed, b4 U purchase, the spec may not be tropicalised, origin and/or history may not be fully disclosed to U. So, definitely need contingency fund.

As for me... I could never understand the need to go topless in our climate and environment. Unless U work in Genting or Cameron.

P/s watch out for someone throwing cigarette butts (or cans or saliva or rojak buah or polystyere containers) from the bus, into the back of your seat.... otherwise dun go topless near the bus.
;)

A bit offtopic - But I dun mind getting E21 or E30 Bauer though.... That would be super great!
:yahoo:

Hendry,

Are you having it as a second car or your daily usage?.

For Daily usage you need to seriously considering Hard Top for peace of mind ( Some itchy fingers). The Soft Top is expensive to replace. Always remember it is a small car , including the booth. That is why it is made for two.

Z3 is a novelty to have for fortunate few. Unfortunately novelty soon fades away especially when you need to sell it later. So Use your head and not your heart when deciding.

Z3 with face lift looked better. I saw advert on 1997 for RM98K.

Open top motoring need not be bad in Malaysia as some of you might thought. With soft top it gives you option, and you can always excercise that option sensibly.

If you must have Z3, then go for it...

in the latest motortrader advert under nizra auto i think.
m roadster (z3 with wide body kit/soft + hard top) 3.2 litre m3 engine. 1999. i called and was told Rm300k. apparently only 2 in the country.
just thought u'd be interested to know.

henry,

when comes to outlook , Z3 roadster (hard top) is better.... which the roof till the end of the rear boot... like satria type...

this is all i can say....hehehe

z3 carbriolet, when it comes to maintenance its not cheap for the soft top parts....

this is just my humble opinion...

but if u are keen to have the Z3 carbriolet... go ahead... it look nice as well.....

to me, z3 looks nice........

henry, why care about what ppl think about ur car. u don't ask around whether ur wife is pretty or not. follow ur instinct.......
as long as the car is in good condition, go for it. i like the soft top.......

how true :D :D

It isn't a great performer, but damn, it still looks good in my eyes. Lots of them in Singapore, with big wheels, exhaust, etc...wouldn't mind having one only for posing.

IMHO Z3 looks ugly..better buy the Z4..now thats sexy! :D :D :D

HI eddiefiola

Saw one z4 last Sat evening parking in a house opp Assunta Girls school..must be trying to catch boshsia :D :D :D
645.. hmm a bit too big..they broke the mould with the 633csi -the 8 and current 1 and 6-series are just plain ugly

Yup forgot abt z8..only time I remember it was in that James Bond film...and it got cut in half by a saw hahaha :D :D :D
