I've got a pwobwem on the auto trans of my soon-to-be 5-year old E46. Over the last few months, the auto trans would refuse to upshift to the 5th gear while cruising causing me to manually intervene using steptronic. It doesn't happen all the time, just off and on but it's particularly noticeable when descending a slope into flatter roads such as coming down to Jln. Damansara from Bangsar etc. Has anyone gone through this b4 and can suggest a solution? I spoke to E46F about it and he thinks it's just the software gone bonkers...

Could be a stick valve body body. Flush it first and see how it goes. If problem still persists, could be signs of a tired tranny.

Yikes! I guess it's something I better fix quickly or else bigger pwobwems would follow and we know how heart wrenching that can be when it comes to auto trans?

Try getting the gearbox software reprogrammed and see....I'm having the same thing....going uphill or downhill..the gearbox doesn't want to change...programmed new software...the gear changes when u floor it going downhill...It depends on the degree of the slope as well....

I think this gotta do with the software rather than mechanical coz changing in steptronic is still a breeze...

Thanks mouse, but the list seems to be for manual transmissions. Yes, Zoggee... I can only dream for the time being. Maybe, become gigolo like you to make more dosh.

Hey Ade, E46F said exactly the same thing. He's my walking E46 encyclopedia. Alvin wants me to get the Mini so he doesn't remain the only "cartoon" character in this forum.

If it's the software... surely the diagnostic test will appear.

The diagnostic test does not display any fault. Think of it as patches of software upgrade that they have over the years. Beware the ECU can only be programmed only 12 times. Then u may have to change the memory.
