does anyone here have experience here with the following chips:1. hartge, alpina or viper2 or conforti2. does chipping affect reliability and longetivity of the engine

i am using viper2 for my m20b25. Good, so far, noticed that the flat spots from 2000-2500rpm has been removed and no rev limits as well. Car pull very strogly from 2500rpm upward. Engine seems smoother as well. Mine is an Auto though. Should see better gains if Manual. Got it for 50quid incl. postage.

dvng, is it ok with regular petrol we get in malaysia ? is engine still reliable thus far after chipping? how long does it take - is this diy or i need to take to mechanic?

the chip comes from uk, so it is tuned for petrol of 95 octane plus, it wont hurt the engine as the chip was remap to unleash its true potential. In fact the car now idles better ( slightly higher at 1000rpm), better fuel consumption and felt stonger. Just diy, very easy, less than 15 minutes.

My observation ; ALPINA chip

1) Higher idle circa 900 rpm
2) Fuel cons is slightly better !
3) Mid-range torgue improves a lot
4) Cut-off at 6,900 rpm

Yeah .. it will affect the engine in the long run ..
Sebab .. always tekan pedal to metal :p

dvng, 1000 rpm - isnt' that a bit high (assume yours is a manual). my current idle is ~800 rpm ? would that be detrimental to fuel economy?

what about the CDA filter ? does it help ?

CDA ??? Best investment so far ... tank kiu pussy ...
Want me to bend over for u ? :p

aiyoooo......bendover bendover ni tempat lain lahhh......

pssst.....tokking about chip......what happen to chip for m20b20 auto?? last time say 3 day development time....now 1 week oredi........time for testing and commisssioning lah :D

Chip dah siap dah .. saja bagi drool aje ...
Bila senang .. tapi kena pegi itu tempat rahsia ...

........tempat rahsia..........its so rahsia even I dunno what u are tokking about.............

Mr ktteoh....there is a point to all this moronic dribble....there are certain people here with the knowledge, means and time to programme udm chips.....if the test mules prove that they work, it will add to the (cess)pool of knowledge thus allowing these people to ....perhaps....later.....sell u a chip to go with your fish...I mean engine...... (this sentence added on to keep semblence of relevance and avoid being ranted at by the moderator)

mine is a m20b25 afm (auto)and not m50 which is on MAF. The rpm is actually about 950-1000rpm, anything less and the car will idle hunts. In fact with a modified chip, the engine will tend to idle higher, the CO value is the parameter that determines fuel consumption. U can have low idle and the CO value varies from low or high. The Motronic 1.3 with AFM is very difficult to tune to obtain precise metering. Besides my car is without the O2 sensor therefore the ecu will not monitor the o2 content but fixed it to the default rate. Mebe i should consider adding the O2 sensor. Fabian, pls help, i believe your car is O2 sensor fitted.

dvng, what is an afm vs maf ? i'm not very techie on cars.
AFM vs MAF

maf = mass air flowmeter
afm = air flow meter

MAF kit replaces your stock AFM (the big flapper style air flow meter) with a mass air flow sensor this does not have a big flapper that you have to move out of the way (less restrictive). the kit also has an adjustable fuel/air ratio calibrator and fuel/air meter so you can adjust your fuel/air mixture and thus get more gas and air into your engine ( = more hp ). Im not a very technical person so if you want more info go to www.splitsec.com or www.bmpd.com or even www.seambmw.com and read up.

hope the above clarifies & i may b wrong.....

Hmmm, I like that word... "fine-tuning"... :rolleyes:

not the same..... Ktteoh is talking bout M50 variant where as DVNG is suggesting for his M20variant.... M50 has a MAF as standard....

but i cud b wrong.....
