gurus of the bimmer land ,i would like to know if one can service / fix the check control unit on the E36. mine used to be working fine until it came back from the paint shop ..now there are broken pixel and it's getting pretty annoying looking at it . is it a case of bad contact on the pcb ? or the lcd's screwed ? can i dismantle the unit and clean it with CO contact cleaner ? your advice will be much appreciated.

i think u have to live with it, cant be fixed. our hot weather doesnt really helps too.

first time I hear that an E36 have this problem.. Most of the time it happen to an e34..

I have encountered an e34 before who have this problem. The problem is due to bad contact between the flexible foil and pcb board. Be careful when you are working with the flexible foil as they can be easily be damaged.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can buy the flexible foil if it is damaged..

Its common mate . cant do anything . And yes the hot weather is a contributing factor as well..

Sheeesh .

thanks guys.

but it's really made me feel sad looking at it .

any idea how much a used one without broken pixel will cost ?

just leave it, unless u intend to acquire a new one,u never know as soon as the 2nd ones give u the same problems within days, besides the check control box doesnt really lit up that often unless there's a warning...

guess i'll have to just live with it . my problem is i always like to check to see if all are ok . :D
