Hi all, good day..my ride is E46 Msport japan spec. Stock condition is using 17" rims, tyre size 225 45 17 front and 245 40 17 rear wheel. Recently I've changed to 18" rims. However, I read through internet forum stated that something called 'offset' should be install once bigger rims has put in. What is this so called 'offset'? What is the function? The mechanic at tyre shop not mentioned anything about this to me at all. If this 'offset' has not been installed, what is the consequences?I'm really glad if those otai here can share something about this.cheers...

the offset is in the rim. If the offset is not correct, your tyres may just scratch the wheel arc.

thanx jarance..is it the offset is come together with the rims or it has to be buy separately..
based on my observation, it might scratch the wheel arch coz gap between it is just 1 finger width. Is it because offset has not installed..sorry for the silly question.

cheers

The offset is inherent with the rim. It cannot be changed. i.e. the offset are fixed.

Do a google search on wheel offset or rims offset to understand.

what type of 18" rims did you fixed for your ride. My E46 M Sport is also on 18" (F-225 / R-245) without much problem.

the rim offset determined how deep is the rim's position in the wheel well or stick out of the body... different rims have different offset to cater to different cars.

That's the size fitted to my wheels from bmw factory ... F:225/40/18 R:255/35/18 ... Of course i'm talking strictly about 325 and 330 M-Sport models it may vary for other M-Sport models e.g 318,320 and etc.

OK just check the actual tyres.

Its 265/35/ZR18..

Diameter Difference of 1.11% compared to the 255/35/18 ... Still within the 3% limit :D
So it's all good bro :top:
