Wonder anyone change their Vanos o-ring & seal lately?

From the Besian Vanos thread :
http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/newforums/index.php?/topic/20028-feedback-on-beisan-vanos-seals-replacement/page-25

Seems like the preferred list of workshop stated earlier has 4 :
1. Optimum at Kayu Ara
2. Naidu (air-con specialist) at under the tree, Jalan Gasing, PJ
3. WP Auto at Pandah Indah
4. Milan Motors, Sg Besi As to the labor charges

I tried call some of them, they are either too busy or too far from my area (Shah Alam).
Wonder any other try the replacement at workshop (proven skill) other from the stated list and close to Shah Alam (Klang, Glenmarie, USJ etc..) area too?
Thanks.

Kw930,

Labour charge to replace vanos seal is about RM250 and takes 2 to 3 hours.

Hi Herbert,

Yes, I've called some of the workshops and found out that their charges are about the same, which I'm ok with it. It's just that most of them claim need to take about half day job to do the services (engine needs time to cool down before start repair) and normally during weekend (which I'm only free) they are mostly loaded with other cards and difficult to provide the vanos repair service, that's why I still not able to find a good time slot to do the changes.

Another concern is some of the shop do not entertain owner to bring their own part for the service (if yes also will impose extra surcharge), which really make rethink of going there since I've purchased most of the parts myself, but their 'non allow bringing own parts policy' make me think of searching for another workshop now.

Optimum have no problem if you bring your own seal. They charge 265 for labour.

Yes go during the weekdays. They are usually busy during the weekend cos most of their regulars customer go there too.

BTW, make sure the shop have the camshaft alignment tool.

Uh..actually the workshop I mentioned just now is Optimum. For the Vanos repair, they still allow me to bring my own seal, but since I also bought the valce cover gasket & grommet, they want to apply RM50 (> half the price I bought those 2 items) surcharge on the parts that I'll bring along. For other repair service, if I still bring my own part, they'll not entertain.

yes, you are right about that. It only apply to the seal.

May I know is it common for the workshop (BMW) to not allow owner to bring their own parts for repair?

Ok, finally got the seals replaced at naidu.
Now wait for the 300km run in & see got any significant improvement or not.

Hi kw930,

How was ur fc after the changes? Interested to know yr result :)

Still early to tell since the seals need about 300km run in time (will take me few more weeks to test it out since I mainly drive the car forth and back to work), but one thing can confirm is the 'hesitation' is less and low end pickup has slightly improved too, hope after run in will even better.
However, I foresee my FC may not improve much since just found out that my car is having adjuster unit (DISA) problem, which may subsequently affecting the FC too.

Thanks kw930... might thinking to get the seal to be replace since i'm having the same pickup problem especially in the traffic. car hardly move till i step deeper ...

Then I think your seal might has gone too. If you can't get the seal by yourself, might as well just go to those recommended shop that able to supply the Besian seal together with the labour.

still sourcing the workshop do supply that ... wondering naidu supply it. My office just next by to gasing maybe just drop by there ask them.
how much yr total damage mind to share for the seal and did u do the rattle thingy as well?

Here's my vanos seal breakdown cost :

1) Besian seals - RM190/set (purchased from forumer here, guess it's left over from previous GB at the old pricing)
2) Valve cover gasket - RM71/pcs
3) Valve cover seal grommet/seal (15x) - RM3/pcs
4) Vanos steel gasket - RM40-50 (forgot the actual cost, supply by Naidu since I forgot to buy it)
5) Labour - MR250

I didn't change the rattling DISA valve yet, it's something unexpected and a new unit quite costly (guess >RM700). Will need to do some searching to find the best offer available out there.

Sad to hear that that... but good luck. my mounting start give noise n vibrate ... plan to change it later in couple of months. Do 1 by 1 ... :)

When I brought my car 6 months ago for leaking valve cover gasket, I asked Optimum to replace the vanos seal as well and was quoted RM1K+ for the vanos job alone. But he forgot to do that in the end. FFFUUU.... :motz:

So, you mean you've paid RM1K+ but vanos seal still unchange?

Didn't pay the vanos job, of course. I thought since he's already opening the valve cover, might as well do the vanos at the same time. Now I'll just wait until time to change the valve cover gasket and then do the vanos.
