Long story short, it depends how sharp and how fast the stone chip is flying to your car. That said, the plastic film protection does provides better protection  against stone chips as it's basically thicker than the coating.However, last I check,just to laminate the front bumper of a F10 will cost me about RM2.3K. Bear in mind... for best protection, the bonnet and the lamps and also the side mirrors should be laminated. That will cost a bomb. If you use a cheap film, the plastic may also shrink and turn yellowish over time. Now...if you have serious cash...do the ceramic coating such as Ceramic Pro to get the shine and gloss! Then send it for clear film lamination to lock in the shine and get the protection at the same time.All the best to what you decide to do for the best for your car.
