My undercarriage is badly infected by the cancers rust disease. My questions :-1. Any solution to rectify this issue?2. Where can it be treated?3. How long it usually takes to fix it?4. Any possibility for reoccurrence?5. What will be the price like?Appreciate any reply… thanks & cheers

the best person to check with is Jeffreyewe... his was fully treated and repainted... pretty good job done... but have been warned that on average it can last 5 years.. best to not to park under the sun after u have fully done up the car... the UV radiation quickens the oxidation...

i am getting my rust done very soon, getting it done at segambut,

1.the price depends on the extent of the damage
2.rust is inevitable for you can only prolong it, if treated well it will last long before it rusts again
3. the guy's workmanship is good ( feedback from others)
4. price is also supposed to be good.

if you want to come along for a quotation feel free to come. i am going soon to get a quote. PM me for more info.

hope this helps

Huh? Only 5 years ah? After that, you will look like Fred Flinstone driving with one foot out of the undercarriage is it? Jeff...good luck....hahahaha.....

Just to share....
For my experience I brought my car back from UK, then there are rusted parts because of the snow which when I went for rust treatment was eventually cut out and replaced.... i don't know whether this is the best method but the paint shop says that replacing the infected parts and panels is the best way to prevent the rust from coming back..... I guess it is like cancer... you have to cut out the infected parts but it will cost you a hand and a leg...... good luck bro.... just my 2 cents.... :)

I got the same scenario as you, I mean the car was brought back by the 1st owner after 6 years in UK. The best way to get rid of this rust is to cut it out and replace with a new panel and anti rust it. It cost me RM600 for the above work and another RM200 for the paint work (need to take out my fiber skirt cause the rust quite near to the skirt) To me it is a bit expensive but I'm satisfied with the workmanship so far.

Opps, sorry, at least give them a week. You yourself have a check first after the new panel welded b4 any paint/anti rust applied. It is a messy work. That's why do it once forever. Hopefully. Good luck

Bro..

U can solve the rust problem temprarily. Take good care it will last longer .

But sorry to say i will resurface after some time .

cheers :D

rust is how they treat it to last or not and its best to watch they do it. normal workshop want to have fast job cut weld if you don't watch they just cement and thats it will come back. its best they clean the area and treat it clean metal rust proof treatment in & out then primer baru cement paint at least it will last longer and if small dots of rust don't weld it will spread as the burn will bring more rust just use fiberglass but clean the area 1st. I am now in the proses of doing my sportscar fully strip paint to bare metal and see a few places little rust was just cemented to cover by painters.the idea of doing myself is because I don't trust any...... how good they are at your back they cut short the work some just weld a plate over the rust area without even cutting then cement and you face the problem later. so I make up my point to bare metal myself and primer myself and sent for welding what to be done I can see no hidden rust covered. you can do this only to your collection not to daily cars. I will post pictures later at other section on my hobby. sorry for the long tales I love to see good workmanship if any w/s I go can'nt do it let us know we go for others but don't waste our money for lousy job. thats my xpreance I (F) my painter who says can do good job but fail and I tell all my friends don't go to him finish for him. goodluck to you.

If the rust is not that bad then you can just power brush the area and apply cold galvanising paint.

gee guys!at least let them hav the ounce of hope will ya?
i got mine fixed and it has been faithful till now mah! :p
if only bmw made the darned cars galvanised earlier then 1988!

That's why some of us prefer post '89 cars.......

But I agree Brad, a lot of classic BMWs have prematurely vanished due to the tin-worm.......

miepower, i think i told you that i got my rust patched up. the guy did a great job and the price was really good! if you havent done your car yet then i can take you there for a quotation.
