I'm surprised there has been no discussion of this so far but I thot it was a great race with only 11 cars finishing. This track really took the car's suspension, tires, brakes and engine to the limit. It was so full of drama from incidences of wall banging by F Alonso, J Button and N Karthikeyan. T Sato's brakes caught fire, JP Montoya was black flagged after leading the race, N Heidfeld's engine blew and R Barrichello finished 3rd despite starting last! Other priceless moments included F Briatore's look when both Renaults retired early. It was also very interesting to see the driver's and constructor's points position. BMW Williams in 3rd position despite hauling only 4 points but still sneaked ahead of Toyota on equal 47 points. Ferrari are now only 3 points below still in 5th position and McLaren closing the gap with Renault F1. What an "open" championship this has become???My sympathies to BAR Honda. I thot J Button was doing quite well in 3rd until he got intimate with the tyre barrier, heh! They could have easily scored some nice points with their cars running well. With Indy GP just a week away, F1 is getting exciting again!!

I didn't fall asleep even though my eyes was getting extremely heavy.... Good race with dramas... but still lacks the overtaking manuovers which is what motor racing is all about....

errr...who won ar?
Oh.. hehe! Kimi won nicely with M Schumy hot in pursuit. I think JP Montoya could have won it but too kan cheong after pitting during a safety car period and ignored a red light at the pits, so he was black flagged i.e. immediately disqualified. The live telecast also aired team radio of Renault F1 team and it was quite a laugh to hear F Alonso sounding really anxious about going faster with Montoya and Kimi closing in on him. It was a bigger laugh when he radioed the team that "something's wrong with the car" after hitting the wall! Adoi, of course lah!!

me too was laughing till my wife came to take a peek on whats going on... F1 can be so much fun???

Well, I guess not many comments from ppl today cos they'll be watching the delayed telecast today and couldn't stay awake this morning, haha!

I watch it on 8TV .. and 1st thing is I feel annoyed with those talks from alex yoong and his pal during the start of the race ... can you just shut up and let us enjoyed the real commentator voice ??

renault is great ... but bad luck is even great on them :p i actually want them to win the race by 1 - 2 position ... they're looking great. the starting was great ... everything was great. then come the real problems ... lol.

ferrari with bridgestone really is bad when starting/launching with cold tyre temp ? too bad schumi cant push hard and over take kimi .. if not it will be a great race indeed.

what about the controversional calling kimi first for pit then call montoya ?? i didnt hear the last part ... they said montoya didnt heard them calling in to pit first ?? problem with radio ??

i'm however supporter of petronas sauber :)

HAHAHA....i concur...CBS hosted the F1 race here in the US, and those 2 very annoying commentators just couldnt shut up.

went on yak yak yak like we were kindergarten kids.

But it was definitely a great race...very sad for those who met the wall of champions...even more for Montoya.

But i better begin supporting Sauber...and hopefully next season it'll be Sauber BMW.

Cant wait to see what happens next weekend at Indy (wish i could be there though)

I totally agree witcha. The commentary in 8TV by Alek Yoong and his pal was very very poor. Turn to Star Sports and their commentators said the same thing sometimes but the ESPN commentary was much better with much better expression and articulation!! So, I didn't mind the 2-3 minute delay!

Thank God however they learn that they have to shut up and give up with their pathetic words ... If they continue for another minute, I'll just turn off the tv and go to sleep.

I read in some other site, some arguing on the real need of Safety Car in that lap when Button actually have cleared the corner ... and no one will drive fast at that corner (if you drive fast you'll face the wall of champion as said by Franklin). Yellow flag might be a better decision.

Regarding the radio problem, it is said that pit-to-driver radio is the worst connection in the F1. reported that driver will only have clear radio communication when taking slow corner. if they're flying over 200 km/h on the straight they wont hear anything from the radio, the engine high revving sound is enough to kills all other sound. so thats why montoya didnt hear the instruction on him to pit as SC was deployed.

In my readings also stated that it wasnt bridgestone fault for ferrari slow start .. it was ferrari own problem. no details on that anyway.

Plus Kimi said McLaren will be better at US :) sure thing dude, just dont blow ur engine :)

excuse me, who is alex yoong? i think i've heard that name before....... was he the one who featured in kotex freedom advertisement...... B)

Great insights! But I think the SC should have been deployed cos if another mistake happened at that corner, then the car will collide with the abandoned BAR Honda, possibly with Jenson still in it... :p

There were six F1 cars running up the front. Six F1 cars running up the front, but if one F1 car would accidentally fall, they're be five F1 cars running at the front. And so it goes, a childish rhyme which neatly summed up what happened in the 2005 Canadian Grand Prix.

By the end of the song there was only one green bottle left.

Kimi Raikkonen ended up winning the race but it had looked an unlikely result at the start of the event. Kimi might have been unlucky at the Nurburgring but in Canada luck was on his side. And as his rivals fell off or broke down, he emerged with a big win. A win which negated the loss of points at the Nurburgring. The slate was wiped clean. Fernando Alonso got 10 points at the Nurburgring. Kimi got 10 in Montreal.

So Kimi duly won.

Michael was second, which was a good result, but the car really did not deserve such a result. Barrichello was third, which was a great result coming as it did from a race that began in pitlane. Rubens gained the place when Trulli disappeared with no brakes at all. At the end Rubens was just ahead of Felipe Massa and Mark Webber both of whom were charging. Webber's race had been difficulty and he had two mistakes as his tyres refused to heat up after the pit stop and the Safety Car. On both occasions he lost places and would probably have been on the podium but for the errors. Massa suffered during one of Webber's moment as Barrichello was able to pass him. In other words Massa might also have been third. But then again it was one of those days.

After all the report as such, wonder what was the problem with Ferrari anyway?

Ferrari to switch focus to 2006?
The miserable season for Ferrari has been such that the team is now looking at abandoning development of the troublesome F2005 and getting down to business with the F2006. Technical director Ross Brawn says that the team will be making an earlier than normal start on the design of next year's car, because the new V8 regulation is going to mean some fundamental changes on the chassis. The team intends to run a development was with a V8 engine later this summer but that will be an existing chassis which has been converted to accommodate the smaller engine. For 2006 however the car will be ready early, probably in January, so that testing can reveal any problems and the team can get on with fixing them.

The big question is what that will do to the development of the F2005 as there is no real possibility that the car will win the title. There might have been an argument for a complete revamp for the midseason but the late appearance of the new car meant that it was too late to make a decision for a complete redesign to appear in midseason and thus there is a point at which the team will need to write-off this year and go for gold in 2006.

The Ferrari has struggled all year with the Bridgestone tyres and, despite doing much more testing than the other teams, Ferrari has not really made much of an improvement. The second and third places in Montreal were decidedly flattering results.

I think they are plain slow and still suffering from the new regulations. As much as Ferrari and Schumi tried to sound positive, their challenge for honours this season is as good as gone. Looks like the FORCE is with Kimi now, it would have been more interesting had Kimi won Nurburgring, that would have reduced Alonso's lead to just 10 points!

I just hope the McLaren is gonna be super reliable. So far, their Mercedes engine is holding out much better than BMW's!

Yup, seems like that was their achilles heel in the first few races. It would be interesting towards the end of the season if Kimi could continue his winning streak and we may witness an exciting season reminiscent of the late 80s (senna vs prost)!! :)
