Waves after waves of problems...Yesterday, was a little close to a blue factory bus... then guess what, it farted the butt out of its way and choked us all in the car. My friend's old japanese shit-wagon can switch whether he wants to recycle the air in the cabin or get air from outside at a single button. Mine too judging that the last button on the extreme left showing a circle could the job. Alas... switch on or not, I still get the air from outside. What could be the problem? Aircond filter? Sifus out there, please comment...Cheers,Geodesy

For the BMWs, even if you are in the recirculating mode, the aircon system will let in "fresh" air from the outside every now and then. Supposed to be a safety feature in which stale air is replaced by fresh air, so that we do not get sleepy from breathing stale air.

Hee, I always kena the "pong" when I am using the NPE, evertime when I pass the sewage treatment plant, the damn flap will open to emit "fresh" air. Yup, it will "refresh" me that time...

Can't do anything about it unless you want to mod your aircon system...

Hey Flash,

Thanks for telling me that. Am Happy and Unhappy.

Happy being there's nothing wrong with my aircond then?

Unhappy being we'll get the fart from outside regularly :(

Cheers for sharing!

Geo

Geodesy,

What model u driving??

What Flash says is true, the "fresh" air intake is always open, to allow "fresh" (mixed with Co2 and fumes) to enter the cabin. Also, prevents drivers from passing out in case of fumes leak.

Actually u can do something about it. Speak to yr regular workshop fella, ask him to seal the fresh air intake. Its located somewhere in the back of yr engine bay, near the dashboard. However, there are many stuff to remove before getting to it. Get the workshop fella to close it and seal it.

By doing this, u dont get anymore "farts" from buses or lorries, and yr aircon will get cooler faster than if its open.

I think the aircon guys can do it too.

Hope it helps.

Yup, that is what I meant that you can modify your aircon system. But then you will have to wind down your windows to "refresh" the cabin air every now and then. It will no longer be automatic.

Flash, so true. But due to our extreme weather here, who would wind down the windows for fresh air???

In town, no way jose. In highways, unless u r a smoker or u want a radical new hairstyle when u arrive at yr destination.

I think its more than sufficient that fresh air gets into the cabin whenever we open our doors to get in/out, or our windows when we pay toll (unless using SmartTags la)...

My 2 cents.

Gee... maybe modify it to be half shut :D:D:D

Thanks folks!

Geo
no use, bro. The smell will still come through the aircond vent even you close the vent half way. If you want to eliminate the "smell", seal the vent entirely. If not, just let it be lar, like most of us (at least it reminds us every now and then what it is like to breath some carbon monoxide, soot, etc that nature has to offer :D )

yeah, i had mine shut off completely (sealed up). can't stand the smell from the outside. sometimes fetching chicks memalukan lah!

doesn't cost alot, took my mechanic 10 minutes to do the job with 4 screws & screw driver!!!

cheers,
nick

Agree, dont cost a lot... but kinda lotsa work for the fella.... so do it when u do oil change, all in expenses....

Sealed up mine as well but sometimes some smell still get in, not very often though.

Was thinking of sealing mine up as well since my Recirculation button does not work anymore. All smells will be sealed out except Diesel fumes and Durian. So don't drive too close behind those stinky trucks and busses lah. ;)
