need some pointers before i plunge.. i'm pretty much set in getting a used 2014 F20, the condition is good for a 4 year car and it is only about 40k km in terms of mileage.

is there anything in particular that i need to check that may not be visible on exterior inspection for instance, checking the engine parts for leaking or something.

any "known" problems of the F20 that i need to take note of?

don't want to be buying a car and then spending half of its price fixing it before being able to drive it.

Thanks!

first, perhaps you would want to check the service booklet that comes with the unit. Note the authorised SC that it went to. with that info, you may check with the SC on the history of the car's service, and even the actual mileage of the car. Tell them you are buying the car and checking some details. also be nice to the SC personnel attending to u.

all the best!

Hi!

Thanks for the reply - upon inquiry, the used car dealer is unable to give me a proper account of servicing record so i avoided them but i now come across a 2016 F20 from BMW Premium Selection, it's going for RM128k and with the warranty ending only in June 2021, it looks like the better bargain - with full and proper service record and having all the technical items replaced/claimed out before I take delivery of the car.

Can anyone give me an insight of what the approximate costs of maintaining it after the warranty?

Heard from a lot of people that after warranty BMWs are like blackholes in your bank account.

Sounds like a good bargain, more important is the BSRI is still intact!

approx yearly cost would be 10% of the purchase cost, provided its been taken care of within the warranty period. Rule of thumb, spread out your maintenance schedule (which to do first, more of a preventive maintenance program) over a period of time. It will cost u a bomb, when u decide to do everything at one go.
