interesting insider info, though they hardly reveal much as to be expected. i for one would like to know if anyform of variable valve timimng and lift is used, or can be with pneumatic valve actuations.

also didn't mention why 180deg crank v8's are better than 90deg v8's. read somewhere in road cars, the ferrari's have flat (180deg) v8's because the firing sequence is such that the exhaust manifold can be optimised per bank. compared to most balanced and smoother v8's like those in x5 and range rover, the extractor design, in order to maximise scavenging involves collecting exhaust pulses from both banks. perhaps there's a further f1 advantage hich i don't know of.

its a pity FIA doesn't allow forced induction, otherwise to hell with the above 16krpm vibrational issue and set redline at 15krpm, but boost it. my calculations show that if they achieve say 80% of 100Nm/L torque due to lower compression ratio, that equates theoretically 576Nm of torque with 2bars of boost-assuming adequate cooling. if they spec cams and turbo to produce that torque at 15k rpm, we're looking at 1200hp.. nice to hear blow offs and whines again, and see slides.
