I´ve been driving an E46 2.0 for quite some time now. And I don´t really find it to be bad at all. On the contrary, I personally find it alot better that the 1.9 model in terms of perfomance, and the pickup is definitely better. As for the maintenance part of it, it is no big deal. It is just a matter of getting the right mechanic who can do the job properly. If the mechanic is not technologically competent enough, then most likely he would say that this particular model sucks. Because he doesn´t know how to repair! My E46 2.0 has been by faithfully by my side delivering every whims and fancy I threw at it on the road without major issues. Like what most owners advised in this forum, just get the expansion tank replaced immediately after getting your car plus some fluid change, wear & tear items,...so forth. Roughly set aside RM5k to get it tip-top and you will be covered for the next 50km, aside from some routine service and ppm. To sum up, it is a very good car to own contrary to popular claims by incompetent mechanics who are already starting to say similar things about E90 since they don´t know how to repair them. More & more E90s are coming out of warranty, and alot of these owners are sending them outside of AB for repairs and preventive maintenance. The same mechanics who say bad things about the E46 2.0 will most probably put down the E90s because they don´t know any better. They are quite a few good workshops in PJ, USJ, and I just found out 1 good one in Cheras as well from other forummers. So, choose your workshop well, no matter which UDM you decide to get. Cheers and Happy Hunting!
