Hello all ,

Quick question - i just got my BMW 528i .
I realised something very interesting about this machine in comparison to my E90 .
Whenever I long press the stop button in order to kill the engine , my idrive remains switched on .
It only completely shuts down when I lock the car . If I dont lock the car - it remains on for about 5 minutes or so before automatically shutting down.

Is there a way to get it to switch off when I hit the stop button or at least reduce the time it is on standby with the engine off ?

Second question , I am connecting my ipod to the car via Bluetooth . Works fine to listen to music . The ipod is being charged via USB . However I keep getting this warning message that the device does not have any telephone compatibility every time i start the car . I just have to hit ok at the warning message but it gets annoying having to do it every time . I check the connection settings and the ipod is only enabled for Audio . Any ideas ?

Thanks !

rgds,

Not sure if the F10 system is the same as the F30 system but when you want to turn off your car completely, press the stop button twice to turn off the engine and the electronics together.

Can't help on the audio part is I stream my audio via BT from my iPhone.

Agree with Seancorr, F30 is press 2 times (short press). Or press 1 time and then lock your car with remote control. I think the Start/Stop button is not design for long press. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey guys ,

Thank you for the reply .
The double short press worked ( second press with legs off the brake) !
The E90 is designed for the long press but not the F10 and F30 i guess .

As for the bluetooth issue - I was using the cable that I used for my Ipod from the E90 . This was the Y cable accessory with the connector and the AUX jack .
I used that in the F10 which was the mistake . The new idrive just needs the original apple cable ..all problems went away .

Thank you ! .

rgds,
Dimitri

For F30, no need to press the brake paddle. Just press the Start/Stop button for 2 times will complete shut off everything.

Chief , correcto !
No need to press brake pedal for both press .
I stressed that cos typically during first press ( switch off engine ) u have your leg on brake .
Second press , if leg still on break - engine will start . If leg not on brake - ignition off .

If F10 is the same as F30, you only depress the brake pedal while pressing the button to start the engine (for surety reason)

When shut off, just press the button once to shut off the engine and go to ancillary mode (radio, lights etc), press one more time to shut off the ancillary mode (both times no need to depress the brake pedal).

Just like the old days when you switch off using key, click and click remember?

Anyway, surprised that your sales guy didn't spend some time with you on this.

Hehe yeah I agree, my sales rep spent about an hour explaining all the stuff and she even help me set radio stations and short cut keys for me!

My sales rep was useless, didnt explain much. Half of the questions I asked, he dont even have the answers, ask me to try myself.

To be fair to the sales rep - he wanted to explain everything .
But I cut him short to the portions where there is an obvious difference between the E90 and F10 .

Anyways - the F10 is amazing .
Sports + mode is a dreammmmmm to drive .

Great, enjoy your rempit sessions on the road bro. My 8 month old car is plagued with interior noise that is driving me mad and after sending it twice to the dealer for troubleshooting they instead made more issues than the ones I initially raised. Would be good to hear from you again after a couple of months of ownership to gauge the quality of a CKD F10 comparing to the CKD F30.

Hi Seancorr ,

so far its really quite .
When I bought my E90 - I had the same issue . I made them work on it till it was perfect .
The F10 is right now is wayyyy better .
So far no complaints

Wow good for you then, how many months old is your car at the moment?

I'm about to send my car in for the 3rd time to settle the existing noise and the new noise that they made while fixing my car. Hopefully they don't produce another new issue this time.

Hey bro ,

Mine is a month old now.
Good luck with the next trip to SC. Make em know u mean business :)

Hi seancorr,

I have the same problems like you. When I collected my car, 528i, from the dealer in November, 2013 and used for three months, no noise at all. After 3 months till todate, noise is everywhere i.e. driver door, read passenger door, seats etc. I will send it to SC this Thursday to check my brake which has some noise (believe is from the brake pad) when I step brake pedal during traffic jam. The mileage now is about 17,000 km.

Anyways, I have learnt something new from the Sifus here regarding how to shut down the iDrive when stop the engine.

Thank you.

Oh yeah I will when I meet up with the service manager this Friday for coffee...have LOADS to say to him about the poor QC.

Oh damn...feel sorry for your car, would have thought the F10 would have lesser interior noise since its a class above the F30 but looks like its the same too. I would suggest you send your car in for them to solve the interior noise and your brakes all in one go and ask them for a courtesy car because this will most likely take a week or more to settle especially for the noise as you have noise in various places.

I think I might just try a Mercedes the next time...they must be confident in their cars since they have the guts to offer 4 years worth of warranty.

Actually this can be done through coding. You need the ODB II cable and E-Sys to do it. If not look for local coder.

Seems the QC can be inconsistent. My 528i is now just past 2 years and no noise problems.
