Sometime the alternator can be repaired depending on the damage. Usually, it is the diode bridge that is kaput. In the alternator, there should be 3 sets of diode bridges. Any good auto electrician should be able to find where is the fault and should be able to repair it.Sometime it is better to get a new alternator if you can afford it or find a cheaper solution by getting a recon unit or from the chop shop.
