advise on 520i

hi guys i saw these car e39 selling .-rm 100k-year 1997 register 2000 (no angel eye )-dark blue -no leather seat --black interior trim ori condition -520ii think is a cbu unit or is a japan model .pls advise me what to look out , is there any diff. from the newer models ?i might want to upgrade my current e36.

If you wanna the E39 go for the 525i. The car is so heavy the 520 is just too wimpy. sloppy pickup...You wont save on fuel too!!!

The joy of 520 will wear off so quick that you wish you....

BMW originally comes in the 2.5litre engine, however the 5 series also comes in a diesel form which is the 525tds..hence to distance the 525i from the diesel model and 528iSE , BMW (for god knows whatever reason) decided to launch the 523i which was detuned from 192bhp to 170 bhp and called it 523i and also to compete with E230 Mercedes(on paper). The six cylinder range at that time consisted of the 520i with 150bhp, the 523i with 170bhp and the 528i with 193bhp. All cars was launched together...However in September 2000 the e39 was revamped with xenon headlamps, clear indicators and a reshaped grille with matching colour coded bumpers. The 520i in 2000, used the new 2.2 litre engine giving 170bhp, the 523i was replaced by the 525i with the 2.5 unit original 192bhp and the new 530i with a whopping 231bhp replacing the 528i....these engine was also carried forward to the E60 with mild modifications and was later changed to the new 'N' series engines..in 2005...

Sorry.... I cant help myself..... "my friend mothers car " has "orginal m5 steering" and "17inch rim" ....... cool....... I wish my mother was into cars. I'd be driving my "mother's" E30 M3 Sport Evo :lol:

I think this has been asked before but can't find the thread, if I have the 523i @ 170bhp can I retune it to a 192bhp...?? :blush:


Also I have a Oct 99 CKD model with the M52 engine but it seems to be a Double Vanos(there seems to be two "thingys" by the engine block not like the single vanos...) Is there such a thing...? :blink:

E39's are costly to maintain, be prepared for thousands when it breaksdown. Even DIY also still the parts are a bit expensive, this same goes to E46 maintainence.
If you are comparing E30 to E39, its 2-3 times leap forward in maintenance costs :lol:

with due respect to MB...its technology in makin performance engine for passenger cars is at least 10 years behind BMW..therfore the maintenance cost is not as much as the BMW..the MB is a real sedate car meant to be chauffered driven..

overpriced...a local 525i may deserve this price but not a UK specs model..
