Time to change absorber as one of it is leaking. I intend to change all of it.My mechanic insist that I need to change all the mounting as well but I told him it is not crack yet.So my question is when should I change the mounting ?

The mountings may not cracked yet but the rubber probably already hardened. To get best result just change it too

yup better change for a smooth ride. hardened mounting same like rock. it wont absorb bumps. just a cheap fix too

I noticed that old absorber mounting will drastically reduced the height of the support rubber at the top of the mount. Look at the pic below of new vs. old.

My question is, if one replaces the old with the new mounting, does it increase the overall height of the car? Meaning there will be more space between the wheel arch and the tires....i.e ugly. :(

Is this pic taken @ Bomin Auto?

Yup Julian. It's in Bomin. We've met there before. My car e39 Oxford Green was on the hoist replacing my rear wheel bearings. And yours was parked next to mine sorting out some wiring issues. One of the mech was soldering some wires near your ECU box at that time.

I thought that was my photo when I did the front absorbers in September. If it was, yes its in Bomin.

What's the symptom for worn-out rear wheel bearing?

Humming sound when cruising...absolutely irritating. To check which side of the wheel the bearing is busted.....hoist car up, and while manually rotating the wheels in motion, place the other hand on the absorber strut.....you will feel vibration if that side of the bearing is gone.
