Dear Forummers,I've just got myself a E60 525i M-Sport UK Spec. The car does not come with Parking Distance Control (PDC) at the front or back. Just wondering can the PDC be fitted by BMW Malaysia? If so, what will the price be like and can it be linked up to the i-Drive. Do aftermarket sensors work well and can they be linked to the i-Drive as well? Your expertice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the club bro...it'll be proper u make intro of yourself first...there are many sifu's here who might just be happy to help you...enjoy your stay.

Yes you can retro fit the ori PDC. It comes with a ecu module that is plug n play. All that is needed after fixing it is to use the GT1 to recognize it. So you may not only do it at AB but also at most BMW Specialist w/shop

Thanks Alvin. How much will the original PDC cost? Will the i-Drive monitor show the diagrams of the distance? What's a GT1 by the way? I'm quite new to BMW terms.. this E60 M-Sport is my first Bimmer. Thanks

1. Yes, I-Drive will detect as if its off the production line. Whether you bought it with PDC or retro fit the ori ones, its the same. You will get all the benefits.

2. Cost - I'm not sure but i would guest in the region of 4k for both front & rear.

3. GT1 - BMW diagnostic computer. Does all the diagnostic of the car & reprogramming also. eg. You can reprogramme that when you press the door open function that drivers door open first, press again & all doors will open. Plus others.

Hope this helps.

I reckon it'll cost much more than RM4k for front and back PDC as the rear sensors for E39 already cost more than RM2k.

Thanks once again..

If I'm not mistaken have to either change whole rear bumper with PDC holes or drill holes to the existing bumper right? Is the GT1 only found in the BMW specialist centres and AB SC? For security reasons I think the disarming of the drivers door on the first press of the remote is useful especially when parking at secluded areas as no one can jump in from other doors. Might get it reprogrammed to that function

Bro

You can drill out the holes on the existing bumper. I found that the ori bumper has marking (Circle template) on the inside of the bumper. So no worries for the positioning of sensor. Just drill out those templates.

GT1 cost Rm150k so not all workshop has it. I would recommend you to either go to Obermaier or contact Calvin Tan. For either contact no, pls PM for info.

If you are going to install PDC better to re programme the doors & other stuffs at the same time. Normally w/shops will charge in the region of rm150 ~ 250 for usage. So maximise it. If you buy the PDC from the workshop that has a GT1 they will probably offer you including installations & programming. This will again save you cost.

Other places that can install are like BM world, heritage, stuttgart etc. Where do you service your car in the 1st place?

I am not so sure it is just a plug-and-play for this PDC for E60. Even retrofitting the Aux cable, the idrive software needs to be updated to enable the option.
When I bought mine (in Singapore), the dealer had a lot of problems retrofitting it when the cars came without it. I couldn't do it and ended with a after market one. To be honest, it has served me well.
Cost-wise, here in Singapore it is already S$3K. I would think AB would charge even more since I have noticed the parts seem to cost more.

Ok i have check it out.

You will need as follows:

1. 8 sensors (4 front & 4 rear)
2. PDC Installation Kit
3. Switch Unit. (Must chg in order for PDC to work)
4. Bumpers.

I made a mistake. The E60 bumper does not have a template to drill out. Therefore you will need to chg the bumpers. Might as well chg to Mtech kit bumpers.

Total Kit is around Rm8k++ excluding bumpers.

If you interested, used ori bumpers with the PDC hole is available. Price i'm not sure but should be reasonable. I can put u in contact with the people so that you can nego directly.

ps... I'm not in this line of business.

Well I'm currently based in Kota Kinabalu Sabah. There are no BMW SC's in the region. THe servicing, will have to hire a runner to drive the car all the way down to Brunei to do the servicing. It's ridiculous I know but just need to await for the establishment of BMW SC's in the region. At this point in time, driving down to Brunei is the only option available.

Alvin,

My car already is an M-Sport 525i. Needing to change the bumpers to another M-Sport bumper with PDC holes quite pricey plus the existing bumper will be of no use anymore.

hahah E60Msport , do you want to buy mine ??? i'm thinkin of switching to the M5 bumpers.....

Thinking..hehehe. Maybe just make use of the existing bumpers and drill the holes out for the sensors

Alvin,

I am new to here...first tq all committee at bmw clubs in Malaysia. I just bought a 525I japan spec, rite now AB lauching the new spec of the GPS maps at Malaysia which i found it yesterday at Bukit Kiara club test drive programme. I would like to know that could our 525I upgrade the system as well? Yesterday i ask the AB engineer he told me that it will cost around RM26k to modify the system, is it true?

Your car does come with I drive right? That means probably you would need to get the GPS module to enable GPS. I'm not sure with the price of the module but it can easily be checked. 26k is alot since you already hv the I-Drive screen & all. Is the price inclusive of subscription of GPS plus the maps?

When is GPS actually gonna be launch?

For these kinda of installations, i would highly recommend Obermaier in Jln Ipoh. They hv retro fitted many E46M3 & others with ori sat nav.
