Any over voltage or current leakage, you get different types of error message popping up. Hence, a plug and play system is needed. There are many plug n play systems made just for BMW like wingzee commented. However be warned, it is not cheap. If you are planning for a second hand and the warranty is over, mod away !   Just input from a clueless newbie.</blockquote>
